Book Review: First Principles
<p>Given my love for classical and American history, I thought it pertinent to better understand the intellectual influences and political philosophies of our founding fathers as they sought to design a new nation. The wisdom within the Declaration and Constitution did not simply emerge as if unguided by context and human history. No, the men who waged our revolution and voiced the liberties inherent to all mankind were greatly influenced by the ancient world in ways that few of us can truly appreciate today. In fact, many of the founders studied the histories and politics of both Greece and Rome to such a degree that the collapse of their republican forms of government provided the inspiration and tragic lessons necessary to design the constitutional republic we cherish today.</p>
