How Google Can Predict Flu? A tale of Big Data in Sociology
<p>This is the sound that has marked my recent weeks; I caught a cold, and between one tissue and another, I thought it was the perfect time to tell a story about the flu.</p>
<p>Influenza outbreaks have constantly affected us throughout history, and are constantly monitored. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) in the United States collects information from selected doctors nationwide to predict them, but they have an overall delay of two weeks.</p>
<p>Google wanted to create a more accurate algorithm using influenza data from searches worldwide. It’s worth highlighting that these searches are not always accurate: they could be from medical students looking up symptoms or just curious individuals.</p>
