Thoughts and Prayers

I’ve always felt a distaste for the Fourth of July. Between the look of terror on my cat’s face with every unexplainable boom, and the adverse implications of firework’s on California’s landscape, I was never a fan of fireworks. But more recently, my distaste for the holiday has evolved beyond empathy for mother nature and my cat. With each passing day, the notion of “independence,” loses its tangibility, a frightful reality that occupies the minds of many in our country. Every week there is a nationwide tragedy, a new issue to inspire rage. We are living under the reign of terror of a handful of individuals with unlimited power, awaiting the latest in the Supreme Court’s latest rampage. In less than six months, the Supreme Court has made abortion and gun control illegal, legalized school prayer, overturned the Miranda rights, and banned the EPA from regulating emissions. Each day is a new sad day as we experience another miserable day in the constant stream of endless and heart-breaking saddening days.
