Prescriptions: Potential Association Between Memory Impairment and Prescriptions Commonly Used in the Elderly: A Closer Look at Pharmacological Risks for Cognitive Decline
<p>Background: Memory impairment among the elderly is a prevalent issue, often considered an inevitable consequence of aging. However, emerging research has brought attention to the potential influence of certain prescription medications on cognitive faculties. There is a growing body of evidence suggesting that some pharmacological agents, routinely prescribed for a variety of common age-related conditions, may exacerbate or even initiate memory decline, heightening the risk for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related dementias. This paper endeavors to systematically examine the association between nine such prescription drugs and the occurrence of memory impairment or clinical diagnoses of AD in the population aged 60 and above.</p>
