Krishna: The Playful God of Devotion and Love

<p>Krishna was born in Mathura to the royal couple Vasudeva and Devaki. Devaki&rsquo;s brother, the cruel king Kansa, was afraid of a prediction that said Devaki&rsquo;s eight child would kill him. Kansa killed Devaki and Vasudeva&rsquo;s first seven children and enslaved them in order to stop this. But Krishna was miraculously born in a prison cell and brought to the cowherd village of Gokul, where he grew up by Nanda and Yashoda, his foster parents.</p> <p>Krishna was a naughty child with extraordinary powers. He defeated the savage demon Kaliya, lifted Mount Govardhana to shield the villagers from a storm, and stole butter from the cowherd girls, known as gopis.
