Play Next: Yakuza: Like a Dragon (this is a long one)

Okay, Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a pretty long game compared to my previous recommendations. But it’s also a pretty fun one! So what’s it about? The short answer: A true hero. The long answer: … — That would take too long, really, and would risk too many spoilers. So, long story short: You are Kasuga. Kasuga Ichiban (last name, first name because we’re in Japan), and 18 years ago you took the bullet (not literally) for your patriarch’s captain (yes, you’re Yakuza) and went to jail like the loyal dog you are. But instead of welcoming you back into the family, your beloved boss shoots you (literally, this time). You find yourself in Yokohama and have to figure out what happened while you were behind bars and, well, become a true hero (still an ex-Yakuza though). You’re accompanied by an ex-copper (Adachi), an ex-nurse-now-homeless-guy (Nanba, pronounced Na-m-ba), and a barmaid (Saeko/Sa-chan) on this journey.

It’s a very classical RPG with all the mini-games, collections, achievements, and plot twists you can ask for (or not, because you didn’t even dare dream about most of them). So how many mechanics and features does a game need, you might wonder. Well, the simple answer is YES!, according to SEGA.

(I absolutely recommend playing with Japanese audio and subtitles if you don’t mind reading some more — the voice acting is ON POINT and way better than the English version, which is still good though.)

Website
