My Retirement: A Pilgrim’s Progress

On May 26th, I shut the door to my classroom for the last time. I took one final look around before shutting the door. When the door closed, I checked to make sure it was locked. In my small bag, I carried the few personal belongings that had been in my desk and made my way down the hallway for the last time.

I stopped in the office, turned in my final classroom inventory sheet along with my keys, and emptied my mailbox. I pulled off the little sticker on my mailbox that said “Egelkrout,” rolled it up in a little ball, and tossed it in the garbage. I gave a few hugs, said my goodbyes, and headed to my car for my final trip home from school.
