Review of “Ninety-Nine Percent?

In their recent paper "Ninety-Nine Percent? Re-Examining the Consensus on the Anthropogenic Contribution to Climate Change", David Dentelski and colleagues provide a thoughtful critique of prior research claiming an overwhelming scientific consensus on human-caused climate change.

The authors raise important concerns about potential subjectivity and bias in the rating systems used to categorize abstracts from scientific papers. In particular, they demonstrate that many "skeptic" papers would be classified as having no position or even supporting the consensus, based on a "mellow abstract bias". Their analysis shows the difficulty in making definitive claims about consensus using only quick reviews of abstracts.
