The payment ecosystem

Of course, there is value in having the new system. Things like fare capping and other means of dynamically adjusting fares means we need a certain additional level of flexibility which CEPAS appears unable to support. As an example, a fare configuration mishap at Orchard station was resolved with affected SimplyGo travellers automatically refunded, but old ezlink and NETS Flashpay users had to go to a kiosk and manually claim their refunds.

For what it’s worth, ez-link cards sold since early 2022 also already function on the new system. The LTA should also underline other system features, such as the ability to purchase concession passes through the app without having to visit a machine. This may be useful for students who only need to take bus rides to school and thus will not pass any convenient ticketing machine. Perhaps this can also be a replacement for Adult Monthly Travel Cards, with the ability to apply passes through the backend system and continue using contactless.

Website
