From Playtime to Paychecks

<p>I<strong>had my&nbsp;</strong>annual lunch with an old friend last week in London. We meet up every year to catch up and talk about old times. It&rsquo;s been a tradition for years now, and yet every year the meal gets shorter. The courses fewer and the drinking more restrained.</p> <p>We met at university in Nottingham in 1992. I was studying Biology. He was studying Humanities. He was the first person I talked to on my first day. Standing in a queue to get our student cards, so we could start drinking in the union bar as soon as possible.</p> <p>When we graduated three years later, he went to London to pursue a career as a music journalist.
