War And Peace in The Paris Library

Paris in the 1940s is set against small-town Montana in the 1980s, youth against maturity, and war against peace.

There is both pride and prejudice, there is both sense and sensitivity.

There is both fact and fiction. And a great deal of brilliant writing.

There are three main characters — Odile, whom we meet first as a librarian in Paris; Lily, a teenage schoolgirl in Froid, Montana; and the library of the book’s title, this being the American Library in Paris.

The author, Janet Skeslien Charles, grew up in Montana and has worked at the library in question, when she did most of the research for the book, which was published in 2021. One can imagine that she threw quite a lot of herself into both her main human characters.
