Painting ‘’ Starry night ‘’ 2022

Are we all Stardust? Yes, and it’s necessary to remember that. Planetary scientist and stardust expert Dr. Ashley King explains. ‘It is totally 100% true : nearly all the elements in the human body were made in a star, and many have come through several supernovas.’’

I made this painting following an observation of the Portuguese sky and after a trip to Morocco at the entrance to the desert. (Ouarzazate, early 2023). The infinite cosmos above us, ‘’unreachable’’ for ordinary citizens, has fascinated us since the origin of humanity. It is this ‘’unattainable’’ this universal awareness that I want to bring together through this canvas to connect us to it.

I used different natural materials such as black volcanic sand from the Azores islands, a little gold leaf, charcoal.

Materials that are found in their raw state but also in our modern society. More abstractly, I point out the subject of the overexploitation of materials on Earth and spatial exploitation by extension. From the admiration of the infinitely small to the great whole, face to face with ourselves, the canvas, and its materials. These multiple esoteric meanings evoke life, spirit, unity, cosmic and harmony.
