Filipinos are Pacific Islanders… if they choose to be
<p>Discrimination abounds when first-world citizens try to figure out what’s what when it comes to geographic ethnicities. Filipinos are Pacific Islanders because the Philippine Islands are literally Islands in the Pacific Ocean. If Filipinos were born or immigrated in a country, such as Americans and Canadians, and want to be defined one way than the other, so let them. They are technically correct to do so. An article, ‘Understanding the Difference: Filipinos and Pacific Islanders,’ brought up so many opinionated claims leaning heavily on the US Census Bureau and utilized an opinionated Reddit column to defend their findings, and by doing so, they lost all credible scientific merits. If that doesn’t convince people that FilipinX should give them free rein to define themselves however they want, Asian, Pacific Islander, or otherwise, then you’re as blind as the author. Let the record show the US Census is statistics of body counts. </p>
