A Fall Day Outdoors in Stafford

Over the course of an unusually warm autumn day this past week, I had the opportunity to visit the quaint, small village of Stafford Springs, Connecticut, located approximately 13 miles north of the UConn Storrs campus and 30 miles northeast of downtown Hartford in Tolland County. It is a census-designated section of Stafford and had a population of 4,780 during the 2020 census count. It contains the downtown area of Stafford. The larger town of Stafford, which I passed through parts of on my drive in, was settled in 1719 and had a population of 11,472 people in the 2020 census. The town’s name sounds similar to the town Staffordshire from our friends across the water in England. Stafford has a total area of 58.8 square miles, according to the United States Census Bureau and is the 4th largest Connecticut town based on area.
