White, Rich, and Wantin’ Our Marathons Back
<p>My wife and I are both runners; mostly half marathons, and we both recently finished the <a href="https://www.richmondmarathon.org/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">Richmond Marathon</a> to put 26.2 under our belts. It was my first marathon and Mindy’s second. (Chicago).</p>
<p>We love to run, love to race, but have always struggled with affording the races. Our problem is simple; household income. We’re the wrong demographic. We aren’t rich. A quick look at the <a href="https://www.26-2.org/marathon-center/demographics-trends/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">26.2 Foundation’s</a> numbers show most runners have a household income over 100K. The US median income right now is 63K. Since we both work at small nonprofits, we enjoy a lifestyle nearer the median number.</p>
