A One-Person Business Is The Easiest Way to Retire in the Next 5 Years

A revelation is an odd sensation.

You build it up to be this space-bending, time-stopping, world-altering moment. Like the movies you know. Everything changes from that moment on.

In actual fact though, none of that happens.

I’ve found most revelations come through reflection, not through the experience itself. Most of the time I didn’t realise it was a revelation until I revisited the moment in my head months later. In fact, most revelations increase in gravity the more I reflect on them.

One revelation that has had the biggest impact on my life is the one-person business model.

The old model of life and business

For a long time, work meant a trade-off.

A trade-off of time and happiness. Work, as my mum and dad used to say, is in the name, it’s work. You’re not meant to like it. And that’s been the accepted narrative for the longest while.

A job isn’t meant to be fulfilling or freeing.

A job is to earn money so that outside of work you can do the things you actually like to do. You get paid, that’s the reward. And so that’s sort of what people did. They took jobs that paid that filled their pockets but neglected their soul.
