Two Oaks

Around thirty years ago I planted two acorns at the end of our garden, about the time my first daughter was born. The acorns were collected on a walk, as tree-planting has been a favourite hobby of mine for many years now, something to fill the autumn and winter months.

It wasn’t a conscious decision at the time, connected with bringing a new life into the world, but as the years have passed, and with the arrival of a second daughter, the trees have become symbolic to me of their lives. Born from nothing, from stardust if you are into the esoteric, my daughters are now adults, but unlike the oaks, they have sadly departed for their independent lives.
