<p>The default response to the Oct 7 <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-rape-of-the-israeli-women-october-7-hamas-gaza-progressives-c2a4cd38" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">rapes</a>/atrocities/<a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2023/oct/08/israel-hamas-war-live-updates-palestinian-attack-october-2023-gaza-conflict-hostages-latest-news" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">massacre</a> from women’s organisations, and from representatives like <a href="https://www.ohchr.org/en/special-procedures/sr-violence-against-women/reem-alsalem" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">Reem Alsalem</a>, tasked with fighting male violence against women, was <em>not</em> what I’d expected – an outpouring of outrage at the perpetrators and sympathy for victims and survivors.</p>
<p>Instead, many ignored the attack altogether, some denied or justified it, and some responded with triumphant glee at the comeuppance of the “colonial-oppressors”.</p>
