<p>There are a lot of Jewish foods, especially associated with the holidays, that I love. Very few things in this world can compare to a good kugel or a bowl of my grandmother’s matzo ball soup. But latkes might just take the cake for being my favorite Jewish food. I mean, they are like a french fry’s sophisticated older sibling. What’s not to love about a fried potato? The answer is nothing. Yet I love latkes for so much more than just their taste. They carry a sense of warmth, of light, of family in between each bite of potatoey-goodness. The best latkes have love as their secret ingredient.</p>
<p>Every time I eat a latke, I am brought back to my kitchen back home. Standing over the sink, trying to peel potatoes without their awkward bodies slipping from my hands. Getting my knuckles a little too close to grater each year, and my dad jokingly saying that a little bit of blood only adds to the flavor. The two of us making my mom and brother join us in the kitchen so that we could listen to the first sizzle of the Hanukkah season together.</p>
