Deconstructing a Nightmare, and National Cowardice

<p>Americans like to pretend they&rsquo;re heroic. Many Americans like to pretend that &ldquo;a good guy with a gun&rdquo; is the solution to &ldquo;a bad guy with a gun.&rdquo; Most Americans tolerate their governments handing out military equipment to local police departments and most accept that, for cops, equipment plus an occasional simulation is better than hiring good cops, truly training good cops, and paying good cops enough to keep them on the job. A whole bunch of Americans claim to be &ldquo;pro-life.&rdquo; And even more Americans think they live in a nation that is &ldquo;pro-family&rdquo; and &ldquo;good for kids.&rdquo;</p> <p>We keep learning, day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year, that all are lies.
