Mesmerizing Abstract Murals & Flow States

Does this wall look familiar? Our friend Dulk (story here) painted this wall in 2017. In 2020 the wall was vandalized and after much discussion, the decision was made to paint the wall white. In comes Brendan Monroe, a contemporary artist based in Los Angeles, who brought the wall back to life in 2021.

He is known for his signature abstract paintings, murals, and sculptures that explore natural forms and patterns. Monroe’s paintings are inspired by nature and often feature swirling, layered patterns and monochromatic colors. His work has been described as creating a sense of calm and introspection through its abstract forms and soothing color palette.

I first came across his work in 2016 during the Pow! Wow! Long Beach (now, Long Beach Walls) Art Festival where he did a collaboration with Evah Fah. It shows two palm trees that are silhouetted and framing a big blob-like figure. And a female with her back turned looking at the big blob. What got me mesmerized was the dotted cascading background. It looked like puffy waves rolling in the background and visual eye candy. It looks like a connect the dots rendition of his work today.
