Meet Marius Sylvestersen (2/2)

<p><em>Marius is the Chief Innovation Officer at University of Copenhagen. He has been driving sustainable change at government and city-level since Denmark hosted the UN Climate Change Conference in 2009. Marius has a background in social science and is a thought leader on innovation, smart city, and the green economy. He also served as Director of the Smart City Program at the City of Copenhagen between 2015 and 2021.</em></p> <p><strong>You said that the first step to becoming a carbon-neutral city is to transform its energy system. How did Copenhagen achieve this?</strong></p> <p>Basically the Danish and the Copenhagen model is to rely heavily on wind power. We have a legacy of working with wind turbines that dates back to the seventies when we had two oil crises that hit Denmark pretty severely. At that time a couple of companies started to work with the first types of wind turbines.
