McLeod Ganj, India: In Search of the Dalaï Lama

In the embrace of the majestic Himalayas, McLeod Ganj stands as a tranquil haven on the Indian landscape, a refuge located 1437 km from Tibet. This historic village became the sanctuary for the 14th Dalai Lama after a 15-day trek following the 1959 uprising against the Communist Party of China.

McLeod Ganj, now known as ‘Little Lhasa,’ echoes with the presence of a large Tibetan refugee community.

Ascending towards McLeod Ganj at 1700 metres, we thrillingly navigated narrow, winding roads. Feeling the surge of adrenaline with every hair-raising twist and turn, we avoided collisions with sacred cows and deftly dodged rusty motorbikes. Faces – both young and old – blurred as they raced towards their destination.
