Mayon Volcano: Unraveling the Beauty, History, and Majestic Power of the Philippines’ Most Active Stratovolcano
<p>Long ago, a noble chief had a beautiful daughter named Magyon who shunned her wealthy and arrogant suitor Pagtuga. When she planned to marry her soft-spoken true love, Ulap, her violent suitor and his henchman, Linog, tried to stop them. In the ensuing fight, all four were killed.</p>

Mayon is known for its nearly perfect cone shape and for often being on the edge of eruption.</p>
<p>Mayon gets its name from the word Magayon, the Bicolano term for beautiful. When Ulap, which means clouds, covers the cone, the legend says that the lovers are kissing. When water flows down the slopes, they are crying.</p>
