<p>I actually have a space themed tattoo, and I painted multiple pieces of art over the years with aliens, astronauts, stars and galaxies. And it’s because, for years, it felt like the perfect encapsulation of my constant sense of disconnection.</p>
<p>See, I was very addicted to feeling special. An observer of other humans, near but never amongst. And it never did me any good. The more I was praised for my talents or abilities over those of my peers, the more exceptional I was — the less able I was to see people around me as full people, who I could actually have something in common with.</p>
