The Banned Book of the Week: The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood

<p>That said, these are not the only books subject to recent bans. School districts look to ban books for profanity, sex, violence, and a multitude of other reasons. What strikes me most about bans of&nbsp;<em>The Handmaid&rsquo;s Tale</em>, though, is that they seem to strike at the book&rsquo;s perceived political messaging and anti-Christianity.</p> <p>For a student of the First Amendment, the idea of a school district banning a book for its political and religious stance might seem&hellip; well&hellip; entirely antithetical to the speech rights the First Amendment is supposed to protect.
