For the 15th aniversary issue I was commissioned to write this history of video game magazines. I&rsquo;d been collecting video games magazines since the late 80s so this was basically an excuse to go through all my old back issues and get paid for the it. Sadly, Hyper magazine was shuttered back in 2018.</em></p> <p><strong>The actual article</strong></p> <p>Before the Internet came about, people had to rely on other media for their news and information. For videogame fans in the &rsquo;80s and &rsquo;90s, that meant specialist magazines. Back in the day, these publications were the only real link between videogame fans and the industry. As such, the arrival of a new issue was a highly anticipated event.
