Learning French Through Code: My Journey with “Le Mot”

In 2014, I embarked on a fantastic journey to learn French, a beautiful and intricate language, full of nuance and romance. I even lived in France for a year, immersing myself in the language and culture. Yet, once I left, I felt my hard-earned linguistic skills start to slowly fade away. As a developer by profession, I knew I could merge my love for coding and my need to keep my French alive. Thus, the French version of Wordle, “Le Mot,” was born.

Finding The Word

Creating Le Mot wasn’t just about keeping my French language skills sharp. It was a testament to the power of gamified learning. There’s substantial research showing that using a language daily significantly improves language retention. Simply put, we remember more of what we use, and a daily habit of a French word game seemed like an effective way to exercise my linguistic muscles.
