Light Skin Problems Vol.1

I am aware of the history of the passable light-skin black woman in the United States. Of individuals who have shunned their black relatives to become entrenched in white society to gain status, acceptance and basic human dignity. Of the invention of paper bag tests — the intra ethnic discrimination propagated by light skin folks against their fellow black folk whose ancestors differed only by their luck to evade rape by their masters — thus transmogrifying their inherited family trauma into perpetuation of white supremacy. Of the difference between the house niggers and the field niggers. Of the stereotypes: light skin folks are sadity, think they better than everybody. Of the facts: light skin and ethnically ambiguous folk make up the vast majority of black representation in major motion pictures and network tv shows; light skin folks are seen as the palatable people of color by white folks who don’t even realize they feel like that; dark skin folks are left to play the thugs, slaves, drug dealers, drive by shooters, etc. Essentially, light skin folks have taken up most of the airtime they give POC.
