“let’s see you again soon?” — investors says to my pitch — what i learned after hearing it over 100 times

The Soft “No” and My Journey in Fundraising

Years ago and even now, when I was hustling to secure funding for various startup ventures, I noticed a recurring pattern in my interactions with venture capitalists (VCs). If they weren’t particularly interested in investing, they’d often wrap up the meeting with something like, “I’m really interested to see where you’ll go from here. Let’s keep the lines of communication open!”

The first time I heard this, I was over the moon. It was almost 5 years ago, and I was convinced that the investor was as excited about our venture as we were. “We’ve got him hooked! He’s going to invest,” I told my co-founder immediately after the call.

Spoiler alert: I was utterly wrong.

It took me 66 rejections to finally secure an investment. Sixty six times of hearing variations of “keep in touch,” “let’s see how it goes,” or “we’ll be watching your progress.” The best one is, “lets talk again in next month or 3 months.” This kept me going for another 3 months, and then I circle back for a meeting and iItal of 4 times in 6 months, each time, completed more milestones in my startup.
