Game Lab 2

Last week, we had another game lab where I and 2 of my fellow classmates played a few indie games. The ones that stuck out to me the most were This is the Only Level, Hexlock, and Karnalita. This is the Only Level is an internet classic where you play the same level 20 times, but each time there is a noticeable difference whether it's a new mechanic, different controls, or a change in the physics. Each time the name of the level hints at what the new solution might be, and it starts to take the shape of a puzzle game more than a platformer.

The next game that made an impression on me was Hexlock, a top-down shooter with you playing as a hex-slinging wizard rather than using a gun which was a nice spin. Fighting ghosts, goblins, and ghouls throughout dungeons and graveyards was a blast! I had never played a “fantasy” top-down shooter and that unique combination brought a lot of inherent interest into the game and what each level had in store.
