La Maison Abandonnee

One Wednesday, she takes a different path.

This one leads to a compact wonderland of artisan objects set in tableau in an old, abandoned house in Nice.

Immersive theater (created by a young artist) to lose oneself in — play the title role. She is supported by a cast from Cannes — three women dressed for the part. One, impeccable in Designer purple and throwaway hair — another flashing a sequin skirt, lime green platform sandals and a Matador jacket — the third, Japanese understatement in cool grey linen shift. They position themselves and she also takes her place among the peeling, cracked splendor that is the Belle Epoque building and waits for her cue…

Lights up — to reveal a dark chair upholstered in thick brown corduroy squatting on the purloined parquet floor in front of the fireplace. It sags, comfortably — it’s stuffing overflowing the frame and pooling around its legs. It sucks a pipe — ceci n’est pas une pipe — complacent. The women suspend their disbelief — play the game — calculate volume and height — wish collectively on the porcelain wishbones on the mantel — turn to squint at another chair — this one extending a toe, delicately in rich, green velvet. The lady of the house, evidently.
