Please Stop Opening the Kimono at Work
<p>Why? Because it’s a culturally outdated expression that is racist, misogynistic, and also super creepy.</p>
<p>As an Asian American woman, I really feel like I shouldn’t have to explain this, but I have heard this expression casually dropped in business conversation several times in the past year by multiple people at highly progressive, big tech companies. I should add these are people whom I deeply admire and respect, and who I know just didn’t know better or they wouldn’t have used the term.</p>
<p>So let’s unpack why it’s a problematic metaphor…</p>
