How to Kill the Racist in the Mirror
<p>Do you and I each have an “inner George Wallace” in us?</p>
<p>George Wallace was the 1960s-era Alabama governor who viciously defended segregation. He went so far as to physically block black students from entering the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. It was during his reign that state troopers beat civil rights marchers with Billy clubs and whips — and came away unpunished.</p>
<p>Let me ask the question again with more clarity: <em>do you and I — regardless of who we are, regardless even of our ethnicity — have an “inner George Wallace” tucked away in the inner crevices of our being?</em></p>
