Kidulthood — Film Analysis

This essay will explore Kidulthood, released in 2006. Kidulthood is a film that follows a group of teenagers and how their life spirals in 48 hours—exploring sex, drugs, violence and racial topics.

Kidulthood is a word that fuses Kid and adulthood, which reflects this film's nature. Things from Sex, drugs, and violence all have adult natures to them but are portrayed through children. The play on the words highlights the adultification many people of colour face. A study by the NSPCC defines the word of Adultification as a form of bias where children from Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic communities are perceived as being more ‘streetwise’, more ‘grown up’, less innocent and less vulnerable than other children.
