Writing? Art? Magic? Kids’ Books Aren’t Just for Kids

<p>There was a glorious if brief phase in my kids’ growing up when on a long car trip, we would listen to audiobooks — not through our individual headphones, but together, through the car stereo system.</p>
<p>No, the kids rarely agreed on what title to listen to, so mostly it was trips with each kid, separately, that delivered these wonderful moments.</p>
<p>My son sank into the <em>Hunger Games</em> trilogy: good taste for a terrifying story.</p>
<p>My daughter preferred titles that showed young girls doing cool things — though not quite as life-and-death cool as in <em>Hunger Games</em>.</p>
