Karen del Rey goes Off to the Races: My Thoughts on Lana’s “Question for the Culture”

<p>I feel like y&rsquo;all know exactly what I&rsquo;m writing about, but it stills needs to be said. At three in the morning, Lana del Rey (n&eacute;e Elizabeth Woolridge Grant) woke up and&nbsp;<a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CAcQPuBJdir/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">posted an essay</a>&nbsp;about how she has been criticized for apparently glorifying abuse, and while she has a point about her music being judged for being overtly sexual, here&rsquo;s the problem, in an effort to open up the discussion about her stuff she name dropped FIVE black women (yes I know she also called out Ariana and Camila but that&rsquo;s not what I&rsquo;m focusing on) for releasing songs about sex and everything under the sun. Instead of criticizing abusers thriving in the industry (cc: *ix*ine, CB and many others) or men who dismissed her music because she sings about sex, she chose to go after black women for embracing their sexuality in their music. By doing this, Lana has taken the typical approach of the white woman, play the victim and pepper in some Black women as the oppressors for sport.</p> <p><a href="https://medium.com/@beforemoonlight/karen-del-rey-goes-off-to-the-races-my-thoughts-on-lanas-question-for-the-culture-45df4d2189ad"><strong>Click Here</strong></a></p>
