<p>The first time I heard what Jonathan Majors had allegedly done to his girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, I was shocked beyond belief.</p>
<p>Beyond the obvious that no one should hurt anyone in a relationship — irrespective of their gender — there was also the elephant in the room.</p>
<p>He was a black man in America, right?</p>
<p>Who better then than him then to know just how deleterious the slightest hint of violence towards a white woman — true or false — could turn out to be?</p>
<p>Who other than a lunatic knowing just what he stood to lose would go right ahead and engage in what could only be termed an act of madness?</p>
