Job Hunting for the First Time as Openly Trans
<p>However devastating my eventual rejection, spilled milk is spilled milk. I had several other live job applications. LinkedIn giveth and LinkedIn taketh away. The moment’s euphoria remained and does remain. But while the excitement of my first interview as Josie boosted me for some time, I’d hoped it was the conclusion of my first journey searching for work as an openly trans woman.</p>
<p>This isn’t to say I didn’t and don’t freak out. But because my interviews now are through Zoom, several anxieties relieve themselves. One anxiety: as a trans woman I have to care more about my appearance. I have to ‘overcorrect’ for my appearance’s male-presenting aspects through heavier makeup, extra-femme earrings and clothes.</p>
