Jim Jordan, Steve Scalise, Nancy Mace, George Santos and the Long, Sordid History of Right Wing Republican Dysfunction!

The nation and much of the world is reeling from the horrific and unsettling events that have occurred between Israel and Hamas over the past several days, in addition to still being preoccupied with the war in the Ukraine. Now there is the possibility that the federal government may shut down in 35 days. Amid such gut-wrenching and dripping degrees of drama, the House Republican majority is making a mockery of effective governance.

At the time of the writing this column, virtually two weeks out from the removal of McCarthy, the Republicans have yet to elect a speaker to succeed the recently ousted Kevin McCarthy, who was deposed in a coup. Many people have weighed in on the political fracas and ascribed their own labels for how to refer to such a seemingly inept debacle. Among the more popular, recited terms is “clown show.” Although it is true that the GOP House caucus has engaged in some admittedly clownish behavior, even clowns (at least professional ones) are trained and skilled performers who perform such antics as a part of their stock and trade.
