I, however, still maintain that unless Donald Trump drops dead, he will be the Republican nominee for president in the 2024 election. Trump is not best suited to brand DeSantis as a creature of the elite, but he is not wrong in the assertion. People like media tycoons Rupert Murdoch, and his poorer colleagues, the millionaire news anchors across cable news, are the ones that have been boosting him. They are either bored of Donald Trump or afraid of the monster they have helped create and want to move on. For at least two years now, much of the shape of Ron DeSantis’ national coverage has been selling him as Trump’s successor. The purported smarter, less chaotic version of Trump, which makes him more “electable” — especially when compared to a 80-plus year-old man on the other side of the ballot. I don’t have the privilege to look at Ron DeSantis in that kind of detached way. Yes, he is a knockoff Trump, but he’s dangerous. Ron DeSantis ran a very racist gubernatorial race against Andrew Gillium, and upon becoming governor, has used the power of the state to legislate bigotry — and punish those who oppose him.
