An Irishman in Berlin

Say one day a lad decides to move to Berlin… Why Berlin? There could be plenty of reasons. Say, to begin with, the lad wants to escape. He’s young, he’s fed up with the life he has to live, things he has to do… nasty things perhaps. Then, naturally, a question of ‘where to’ arises. The lad has heard about Berlin: it’s cheap, it never sleeps, and you can get by without speaking German. Besides, there’s a buddy of his living there, who one day sends the lad a map of Berlin’s rapid transit system. And just like that the lad packs a backpack and goes through the door and to the train station — never to return. That lad is you. You want change, you want fun, you want experience. Oh, you will get plenty of that living in Berlin.

Photo-collage by the author

You do arrive, and settle in, and even start on your German. You have got almost too much experience for your liking during your first year in the City,

Visit Now
