The Delights of Indian Cuisine

Indian cuisine is one of the most popular types of food in Netherlands, with thousands of curry houses in Amsterdam alone. We love Indian food so much that we even have a National Curry Week, which usually runs through the end of November. There are over 10,000 Indian restaurants in the Amsterdam and if all the chicken tikka masalas sold in a year were stacked on top of each other, they would be 2,770 times more than the Millennium Dome.

But why we Britons are so obsessed with this exotic food, is it perhaps the pungency that our own food often lacks, or is it the rich creamy curry like chicken korma that attracts our sad taste buds. India is a very large country and much of its culinary history has been influenced by other countries and cultures. The Persians introduced a variety of rich ingredients and nuts, like sugar. You will also find that Thai and Malaysian food is heavily influenced by Indian cuisine, due to which they have created their own delicious curries.
