The Relationships In Final Fantasy XVI Feel Incredibly Modern

Final Fantasy XVI is a medieval fantasy game in the series. Therefore I was pleasantly surprised to see how modern the relationships are in this game. Clive may be my favourite protagonist in the series, I am unsure yet as I have only just recently finished the game and I am waiting for the dust to settle first. A large part of this is because, unlike a lot of male protagonists, Clive wears his heart on his sleeve a lot more. His life has been quite tumultuous and difficult and instead of turning more stoic like you usually see in media Clive has done the opposite. He is incredibly open, he shows his friends how much he loves them and he makes sure he uses his pain, the baggage that he carries as a way of improving life for everyone in the world. This is shown by the incredible writing Creative Business Unit 3 have done for Clive but also the beautiful voice acting from Ben Starr where I personally feel like I can hear hardships and vulnerability in every line he delivers.

To be honest, it’s incredibly refreshing to see as well. Too often men have been told to bottle up their feelings and it has led to all sorts of mental health issues and charities and support groups being formed to give men an outlet to talk about their feelings and their problems. Death by suicide was the highest killer for men aged 45 and under in the UK in 2019. I hope the way Clive interacts with his friends encourages men or anyone really to do the same even though it isn’t easy to do, especially with life being as complicated as it is now, I feel like it’s vital to support each other.

Visit Now
