Creating Gender Inclusive Schools

<p>As of this September, anti-trans legislation has been proposed in every state in the US except Delaware in the year 2023.(1) 23 of those states have passed 83 bills, many of which directly affect gender expansive students in public schools. I&rsquo;m proud to say that the Oregon Department of Education issued a wonderfully written and well-researched publication called&nbsp;<strong>Supporting Gender Expansive Students</strong>.(2) If you want a good template for how to create a gender inclusive school, this publication has all the nuts and bolts to get you started. But that&rsquo;s not enough.</p> <p>That is why I got together with my colleague Lake from&nbsp;<a href="https://queereugene.org/" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">Queer Eugene</a>&nbsp;and co-hosted a Medium Day session on&nbsp;<a href="https://youtu.be/qOZR1ns_Y-o" rel="noopener ugc nofollow" target="_blank">Creating Gender Inclusive Schools</a>. We want the nation to see how things could be if we adopt policy that is focused on inclusion. Our session claims that supporting trans-identified and nonbinary students makes school better for everyone.
