Why You Glow in the Dark: The Imperceptible Ray
<p>In 1800, <strong><em>William Herschel</em></strong> a well-known musician and astronomer who discovered the planet <strong><em>Uranus</em></strong>, conducted an amazing experiment measuring the difference in temperature between the colors in the visible spectrum of sunlight. He placed thermometers within each color of the visible spectrum. The results showed an increase in temperature from blue to red. He noticed an even warmer temperature measurement just beyond the red end of the spectrum and concluded that there must be an invisible form of light beyond the visible spectrum. He called it <strong><em>Calorific rays, </em></strong>now known as <strong><em>Infrared</em></strong>.</p>
