Not Just Wakanda: The Sacred Rite-of-Passage Ritual That Morphs Boys Into Men and Humans Into Crocodiles

<p><strong>Life on the Sepik: Introduction to the Kaningara</strong></p>
<p>The island of Papua New Guinea is home to almost 9 million people, 88% of which reside in rural areas. Over 700 different languages are spoken along the 700 mile Sepik River that winds through the country. The Blackwater River branches off in the middle of the Sepik region, fittingly named due to the evident discoloration from tannin secretion from plants into the water. The Blackwater serves as home to the Kaningara people, as well as a vehicle for the rituals they practice.</p>
