Philanthropy vs Generosity

Philanthropy can be defined in many ways. The word comes from Greek, meaning “love for humanity.” Modern definitions include the concept of voluntary giving by an individual or group to promote the common good and improve the quality of life.

Researching and summarizing what people like Seth Godin would say about the difference between Generosity and Philanthropy here is what I found:

Generosity is a form of giving that is spontaneous and often personal. It is about helping others without expectation of anything in return and can take many forms, from giving money to a homeless person to donating time to a local community organization, to simply offering a listening ear to a friend in need. Generosity is a way to spread kindness and improve the lives of those around us.
