Daniel 7: Is the Son of Man Divine, Human, or Both?

The ‘son of man’ was the most common title used by Jesus about himself. Was Jesus emphasising he was an ordinary man? Was he claiming to be the Messiah? Or even divine?

Son of Man in the Hebrew Bible

Bar enosh in Aramaic and ben adam in Hebrew are common terms in the Tanach (the ‘Old Testament’). Both mean ‘son of man’ or ‘man’. For example, God addresses the prophets Ezekiel (2:1) and Daniel (8:17) as ben adam.

On the other hand, Daniel 7 speaks of “one like a son of man” who seems to be the divine Messiah.
