How to Quietly Upgrade Yourself as a Data Engineer (while Working 9 to 5)

When I began my data journey, I thought it would be sunshine and rainbows all the way to the top. I believed (naively) everything would make sense, things would be easy, and all the puzzle pieces would fit perfectly in place as the years went by.

The data world doesn’t work that way. There are no shortcuts, and if you think you’ve found one…

You haven’t – Sorry.

There are no cheat codes (not even ChatGPT has all the answers), and the real kicker is that no one is going to make you level up.

It’s up to you and you alone.

Data Engineering can be an unforgiving place to live in if you don’t keep your wits about you.

The Bad News — Nothing is going to change. The industry as a whole shows now signs of slowing down so it’s up to you to try to keep up.

The Good News — Data Engineering is rewarding if you enjoy serving others, figuring things out, and learning — there is no better job out there.

It’s a job that just keeps on giving the good with the bad. I like it that way.
